Here’s how to look after your health this festive season…

As exciting as the Christmas season is, you need to make time for your mental and physical health, which can be easily swept under the carpet amidst all the chaos. Carry on reading for top tips on how to look after your health this festive season.

Eat, sleep, repeat

Maintaining a balanced diet and getting enough sleep can be a challenge when you’re on call around the clock, but it is extremely beneficial to not only your mental health, but also your physical wellbeing. Try meal prepping so that you know you’re getting all the nutrients you need to keep you energised and full for the day. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy the odd mince pie or hot chocolate over the festive season, but moderation is key!

Depending on which part of the healthcare sector you work in, maintaining a regular sleeping schedule may not always be possible, but try and get at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

Get moving

Although going for a run in the park may not sound very appealing in this weather, being active releases endorphins and can help clear your mind after a long day at work. If running isn’t your thing, you could try doing a workout video at home (there are an abundance of these on YouTube) or signing up for your local gym.

Talk to your friends and family

The festive period can be a very lonely time for some. That’s why it’s important to share how you’re feeling with those you trust. Remember, it’s OK to feel sad – even during what is deemed the happiest season of all! Getting any worries off your chest, or just having a catch up with mates can do wonders for your mental health.

Take a break

If you’re in a fortunate enough position to take leave over the winter season, then take advantage! Spend time with loved ones, binge watch Christmas classics and enjoy putting your feet up and switching off from work.
