7 ways to improve productivity

In this blog, we share seven tips for improving productivity as a healthcare professional.

  1. Set small goals

When looking at your tasks for the week as a whole, it can be easy to get overwhelmed. Instead, try setting small goals or ‘time chunking’ so you can finish everything on time without getting stressed or distracted. Your day will become a lot more manageable and will likely go faster too!

  1. Communicate with your colleagues

The better you communicate your needs with colleagues, the more productive you will be. So next time you need a hand with something, don’t just stay quiet – ask for help. Your colleagues are there to support you, so let them!

  1. Time management

Effective time management is key to productivity in the workplace. Identify and focus on high-priority tasks and create a daily schedule so you know which activities you need to allocate the most time to.

  1. Use technology to reduce the administrative burden

Technology is your friend when it comes to saving time. Let it deal with the small things like booking patients in and making to-do lists so you don’t have to.

  1. Put your phone away

If you’re with a client, it is obviously unprofessional to be using your phone. But even if it’s in your pocket buzzing away this can be highly distracting. We recommend the ‘out of sight, out of mind’ approach so you can be fully present in your appointments and not tempted to refresh your Instagram feed between seeing each client. Save the doom scrolling for your lunch break.

  1. Maintain a healthy work-life balance

Prioritise self-care and set boundaries to prevent burnout, ensuring that you’re mentally and physically ready for each shift. Make sure to take all of your annual leave and do something each day to help you unwind from work (e.g. taking a bath, listening to your favourite podcast or going for a run).

  1. Set boundaries

Remember, you’re allowed to say no to additional tasks – especially when you already have too much on your plate. If you try and take on too much then you won’t end up being productive because you won’t have enough time to put the effort into the things that matter.
